Counseling is one of the most important processes in a competitive exam, and when the exam is one of the biggest entrance exams in the country, the process becomes even more important. During NEET counseling many of you must be confused and can make mistakes. This phase could be like a make it or break it situation for most of you.

Highlights of NEET exam

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, NEET (UG) replaced the ‘All India Pre Medical Test’ (AIPMT) and all ‘MBBS Entrance Exams’, which were usually conducted in States and/or Medical Colleges.

  • Mode of Examination– NEET (UG) is a Pen & Paper-based test, to be answered on the specially designed machine gradable sheet using Ball Point Pen.
  • The duration of the test will be three (03) hours.
  • The NEET shall consist of one question paper containing 180 multiple-choice questions (four options with the single correct answer) from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology).
  • In 2021, NEET was conducted in 13 languages – English, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Assamese, Gujarati, Marathi, Odiya, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, and Telugu.  
  • The national-level counselling for admission to MBBS and BDS courses will be conducted by MCC (Medical Counselling Committee).
  • The state-level counselling for admission to MBBS and BDS courses will be conducted by various state government representatives.

NEET counselling process

After qualifying NEET exam, you have to participate in the counselling process for the All-India Quota (AIQ) seats in Deemed Universities/ Central Universities/ ESIC (Employee State Insurance Corporation) colleges. For that, you will be required to register online on the official website.

You will be required to pay a registration fee for NEET counselling. Following is a tentative registration fee for the NEET exam based on last year’s details.

  • After completing the registration process, you will be required to fill in the choices by logging your account details
  • At this stage, you must choose a course and college as per your preference.
  • Based on your All-India Rank obtained in NEET and as per the choices filled by you during registration you will be allotted a seat for counselling.

Documents required for NEET counselling

Following are the documents required for NEET counselling

  • Admit card of NEET
  • Scorecard/rank letter of NEET exam
  • For date of birth verification, your class 10th mark sheet is required
  • Marksheet of class 12th
  • Any ID proof (Aadhar card/PAN Card/Driving License/Passport)
  • 8 passport size photographs
  • Caste certificate/PwD certificate (if applicable)
  • Provisional allotment letter

For NRI or OCI candidates

If you are an NRI candidate or OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) candidate, then you must have the following documents along with the others:

  1. Copy of passport and embassy certificate
  2. Sponsorship certificate (stating the expenses for the whole duration of study will be bear by the sponsor)
  3. Relationship certificate (stating your relationship with the sponsor)
