CEED Exam 2024: Eligibility Criteria

To ensure a fair and transparent selection process, CEED has established specific eligibility criteria that candidates must fulfill to appear for the exam. Here you go…

Degree/Diploma Requirement:

Candidates aspiring to appear for the CEED exam must have completed a degree, diploma, or postgraduate degree program with a minimum duration of three years after the 10+2 level. Alternatively, candidates can also be in the process of completing their final examinations for such a program by July 2023. This criterion ensures that candidates possess a foundational educational background before entering the competitive design field.

GD Arts Diploma Program:

In addition to the degree/diploma requirement, candidates who have completed the GD Arts diploma program at the 10+5 level by July 2023 are also eligible to appear for the CEED exam. This provision recognizes the significance of specialized artistic training and provides an alternative pathway for candidates with a strong focus on the arts.

Institute-Specific Eligibility:

It’s important to note that while CEED sets its eligibility criteria, the requirements for admission to various design institutes may differ. Before applying for the CEED exam, aspiring candidates should strongly verify if they meet the specific eligibility criteria for admission to their desired institutes. This diligent approach ensures that candidates are not only eligible for the exam but also meet the prerequisites of their preferred institutions.

No Age Limit:

Unlike some entrance exams, CEED does not impose an upper age limit for candidates. This inclusivity encourages individuals from diverse age groups to pursue their passion for design and provides equal opportunities for all.

Unrestricted Attempts:

Candidates can take the CEED exam any number of times. This policy recognizes that growth and improvement in the field of design often come through persistent efforts and continuous learning. Candidates have the freedom to refine their skills and knowledge, leading to better outcomes in subsequent attempts.

It’s important for candidates to thoroughly understand these eligibility criteria before applying for the CEED exam to ensure a smooth application process.

CEED 2024 Exam Pattern

The CEED 2024 Exam Pattern is divided into two parts: Part A and Part B, each assessing distinct aspects of a candidate’s capabilities. Here’s an overview of the CEED exam pattern:

Part-A: Objective Assessment

Part A of the CEED 2024 exam consists of objective questions designed to evaluate multiple dimensions of a candidate’s aptitude. It includes three types of questions:

  1. Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions: NAT questions require candidates to provide numerical values as answers. These questions assess the candidate’s ability to apply analytical and mathematical concepts to design problems.
  2. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): MCQs challenge candidates with multiple options, of which only one is correct. These questions assess visual and spatial ability, logical reasoning, and language skills.
  3. Multiple Select Questions (MSQs): MSQs present candidates with multiple options, of which more than one can be correct. These questions evaluate a candidate’s ability to comprehend complex design scenarios and make informed decisions.

Assessment Criteria for Part-A

Part A evaluates candidates’ skills in various domains, including:

  1. Visual and Spatial Ability
  2. Environmental and Social Awareness
  3. Analytical and Logical Reasoning
  4. Language Proficiency
  5. Observation and Design Sensitivity

Candidates provide answers for Part A on the computer, demonstrating their proficiency in design-related cognitive aspects.

Part-B: Subjective Assessment

Part B focuses on assessing candidates’ practical design skills, drawing ability, and effective communication. This section comprises five questions that challenge candidates to demonstrate their creativity and design thinking.

  1. Question Format: The questions in Part B are displayed on the computer screen. Candidates are required to answer these questions in the answer book provided by the invigilator. However, candidates must tick the appropriate box on the computer screen to indicate that they have answered each question. Part-B answers are collected at the end of the examination.
  2. Evaluation Process: Part-B answer books are evaluated manually, but only for candidates who are shortlisted based on their performance in Part-A. Part B’s subjective questions are not accompanied by model solutions. Instead, holistic evaluation is conducted based on a set of criteria specified in the questions.

Shortlisting and Final CEED Score Calculation

  1. Marks obtained in Part A are used to shortlist candidates.
  2. The cut-off marks for shortlisting are calculated using statistical parameters. For the GEN category, the cut-off is μ + (σ⁄2), where μ is the average mark, and σ is the standard deviation of marks obtained in Part A.
  3. Reserved category candidates have relaxed cut-off marks: 0.9δ for OBC-NCL/EWS and 0.5δ for SC/ST/PwD.

The final CEED score is calculated by giving 25% weightage to marks obtained in Part A and 75% weightage to marks obtained in Part B, contributing to a comprehensive assessment of a candidate’s design abilities.

Note on Re-Evaluation and Re-Totaling

It’s important to note that there is no provision for re-evaluation or re-totaling in CEED. Requests for such actions will not be entertained under any circumstances.

The CEED 2024 Exam Pattern reflects IIT’s commitment to assessing candidates’ holistic design aptitude and creative capabilities through a combination of objective and subjective assessments. Candidates are encouraged to prepare thoroughly and showcase their creativity and design thinking in both Part A and Part B of the exam.
