Also, please remember, a robot may not have 2 hands and legs, it may not look like anything related to a human.

It may just be a long pole with 2 tongs in front or a tall tower will a bulb on top but used for very specific tasks.
Any such critically designed automation system is a complex entity of many many sub-systems (it can be mechanical, electrical, electronics, hydraulic, pneumatic and so on), each of them being a complex system of its own. There just needs to be a proper methodology to integrate things right.
