NTA to Re-conduct NEET 2024 Exam Amid Controversy

Re-conduct NEET 2024 Exam

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has stirred controversy with its decision to re-conduct the NEET 2024 exam for 1563 candidates. This move came after compensating these candidates for lost time during the exam through NEET grace marks, sparking a heated debate over fairness and transparency.

The controversy reached a boiling point with allegations of a NEET 2024 scam, prompting NTA to announce a re-exam slated for June 23. The affected candidates now face a crucial decision: participate in the re-exam or have their revised scorecards, sans the grace marks, considered for the counseling process.

The initial NEET 2024 results were declared on June 4, accompanied by the release of NEET cut-off marks. Subsequently, the final answer key for NEET UG 2024 was made available on the official website exams.nta.ac.in in PDF format. This final answer key, along with the previously released provisional answer key, provided candidates with tools to calculate their probable scores before the official result.

The NEET UG exam, which took place on May 5, 2024, saw participation from over 24 lakh students. However, the aftermath has been marred by the controversy surrounding the compensatory measures for the 1563 candidates.

To address the escalating situation, NTA formed a High Powered Committee tasked with examining the grievances and recommendations regarding the compensatory/grace marks issue. After thorough consideration, the Committee submitted its report, which NTA subsequently accepted.

The official notice from NTA states, “As per the recommendations of the High Powered Committee, NTA decided to reconduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) [NEET (UG)] – 2024 on 23 June 2024 for 1563 candidates who had experienced time loss during the originally scheduled examination on 05 May 2024 and were awarded compensatory marks.”

Here are the key details regarding the NEET re-exam:

SCHEDULE OF THE NEET RE-EXAM

  • Name of Examination: NEET (UG) – 2024 re-examination
  • Date and Day: June 23, 2024 (Sunday)
  • Time of the examination: 2 to 5:20 pm
  • Tentative date of result: June 30, 2024

Following the announcement, NTA will issue admit cards soon. Post the re-examination, updated scorecards will be made available on the official website.

The re-examination is applicable under specific circumstances:

  • The scorecards of all 1,563 affected candidates issued on June 4, 2024, will be canceled. These candidates will receive their actual scores, without compensation, via their registered email IDs. A re-examination will be conducted for them.
  • Candidates opting not to participate in the re-examination will have their results declared based on their actual marks from the May 5, 2024, examination, without any compensation. Conversely, those opting for the re-test will have their new marks considered, rendering the May 5 scores invalid.
