What does a Physical Training Instructor/Physical Education Teacher do? 

As a Physical Education Teacher, you will be engaged with one or more of the following roles and responsibilities: – 

  1. You will be instructing students about the fundamentals of sports, foundations of physical education, physical training, discipline and various types of sports. 
  2. You will be communicating with your students by demonstrating techniques and methods of participation or through games, various exercises etc.
  3. You will also be explaining and enforcing safety rules and regulations.
  4. You will be observing and evaluating your students through class competitions or games in order to prepare their performance reports. 
  5. You may have to arrange participation and team building activities for your students and ensure all the students are equally involved. 
  6. You will be involved in organizing and planning annual drills or other sports activities.
  7. You may have to interact with the guardians of your students to keep them informed about any particular physical issues their wards may be facing. 
  8. You will have to coordinate with your colleagues (other teachers, principal and staff members) and participate in discussions and meetings regarding overall curriculum development, annual sports meet, training workshops, teacher recruitment etc.

Eligibility Criteria to become a Physical Training Instructor/Physical Education Teacher

After Class 10, you can go for:

  • D. P. Ed course.
  • C. P. Ed course.

After Class 11-12, you can go for:

  • Integrated B. P. Ed course.
  • Bachelor degree course in any discipline.
  • D. P. Ed course.
  • C. P. Ed course.
  • B. P. Ed course.

After you finish your B. P. Ed course, you can go for M. P. Ed (Master in Physical Education) course if you wish to pursue higher education in this field.

The educational fees to become a physical training instructor/physical education teacher is somewhere around Rs. 10,000 to 60,000. 

Job Opportunities 

As a Physical Education Teacher, you can get job opportunities in both government and private educational institutions such as day schools, residential schools, and colleges. 

You may find opportunities as a Physical Trainer with sports clubs and team.

You may also find work as a trainer involved in conducting corporate training workshops after some years of teaching experience.

Salary of Physical Training Instructor/Physical Education Teacher

In the entry-level jobs: You may get about Rs. 10,000.00 – Rs.15,000.00 or more per month.

After having 1-6 years of experience, you may expect about Rs. 15,000 – Rs. 25, 000 per month or more.

After having 6-12 years of experience, you may get about Rs. 20,000.00 – Rs. 45,000 per month or more.

In the senior level jobs, with 12-20 years of work experience, you may expect to get about Rs. 35,000 – Rs. 50,000 per month or even more.

You can earn much more if you get to work with sports clubs and teams.
