What is a Bank Job All About?

In a bank job, you will work to provide all kinds of banking solutions to individuals including the high-net-worth ones (HNI banking), corporates, societies, institutes, etc.

You may be involved in either retail or corporate banking facilities. For corporates, institutes, etc., you will manage current accounts, assist with financial needs in terms of loans, manage foreign transaction, etc.

For individuals, you will help to open bank accounts, help to transact, get banking cards, explain banking facilities and help in securing loans, insurances, etc.

How to Apply for a Job in Bank?

For private banks, there are individual selection processes for each bank and some of them also provide training courses.

Most recruiting exams of banks have a written test containing Reasoning, Mathematics, Quantitative Aptitude, General English and General Awareness.

Apart from the direct hiring, 30% of private banks also hire through IBPS and CWE (common written examination). Once you clear the IBPS, you can directly apply from the official portal to get into a private sector bank.

Eligibility criteria for Private Banks

  • You should be an Indian to apply for a banking exam
  • For clerical post, you must be a graduate and +2 with 60% or more marks.
  • You must have a minimum age of 18 years to a maximum of 28 years for clerical post
  • Most of the banks have the eligibility criteria of 10 + 2 and a maximum age cap of 25. Moreover, in such situations, you will be recruited on the basis of outstanding practical knowledge.
  • For Bank PO you must have a minimum age of 21 years and maximum of 30 years. Apart from this you must have 55% – 60% marks from a recognized university. The mark percentage varies from bank to bank for this post.
  • You must have a basic knowledge of computer.

These banks release their vacancy list on their official websites only. The only way you can join these is through the IBPS or CWE exam and then applying directly to each bank respectively.

There are also a few international banks like:

  • Standard Chartered
  • American Express
  • Bank of America
  • Royal Bank of Scotland
  • HSBC
  • Citibank etc.

These international banks are not headquartered in India or limited in metropolitan cities. Even these hire only those who are experienced and specialized in this field.

In a public sector bank

You can start as a Trainee Executive. Post your training, you will begin as an Officer and then get promoted through different posts progressively such as
