CSIR UGC NET Normalization Process
Here’s a simplified process for normalizing and preparing results for exams held on multiple days with different question sets:
- Divide Candidates into Two Shifts: Candidates are randomly split into two groups for different exam shifts, like Day-1 Shift-1 and Day-1 Shift-2, ensuring each group has about the same number of candidates.
- Calculate Results for Each Shift: First, calculate the raw scores for each candidate in their respective shifts. Then, calculate the percentile scores using this formula:
Percentile Score = (Number of candidates scoring less than or equal to a candidate’s score / Total number of candidates in the session) x 100. - Combine Percentiles and Finalize Results:
Once percentile scores are calculated for both shifts, they are combined to create a final NTA score. This score is then used to prepare the final result and set the eligibility cut-off for each category. If percentiles differ across shifts, the lowest percentile is used as the cut-off.
For example, if a 40% score equals a percentile of 78 in Shift 1 and 79 in Shift 2, the cut-off for the General Category will be set at a percentile of 78. All candidates scoring between 78 and 100 will qualify.
