BAMS Scope – Future Prospects
With all the following resolutions and the increase in the acceptance of Ayurveda as a primary healthcare option, the demand for trained & institutionally qualified professionals is expected to steadily rise as well as this would drive the liberalization of regional texts pertaining to this system to be integrated with recipient channels (needs of patients) the world over so it becomes applicable on an international context as well.
Ayurveda is believed to have enormous potential and can prove its efficacy if due patronage is given. This drugless system is more effective in treating chronic cases of rheumatic problems, anemia, diarrhea, duodenal ulcers, anorexia, stomatitis, parkinsonism, sciatica, bronchial asthma, hypertension, rhinitis, sinusitis, spondylosis, psoriasis, diabetes, obesity, anxiety etc. where other systems have failed to provide required relief. In fact, Ayurveda sciences are time tested.
Analysts have estimated that the Ayurvedic Food Market will register a compound annual growth rate(CAGR) of almost 14% by 2022.The number of online transactions and the average amount of money spent online by a buyer are on the rise globally.
The global Alternative and Complementary Medicine market (ACM) is forecasted to reach an improved size of USD 296.3 billion by 2027, exhibiting a CAGR of 19.9%.
High demand for alternative medicine across the globe and expanding applications of traditional medicine are the 2 key driving factors of the market.
China and India are the key contributors to the alternative medicine market offering significant momentum to revenue generation. Although, Europe is anticipated to witness the highest market share over the period of 2020-2027.
Additionally, an increase in the number of licensed and trained physiciansis set to boost patient preference toward traditional medicine too!
Moreover, there is a rising pool of scientists working in ACM disciplines at established universities across U.S., Europe, and Asia Pacific who are focusing on Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and diabetes.
The dream of ‘Health for ALL’ (movement undertaken by the WHO) can be well realized in comparatively a shorter period of time if such traditional therapeutic approachesare given due importance and popularized globally. Also, these systems can cut down the increasing expenses in health care delivery immensely across the globe.
To achieve the objective of Health for ALL, the Govt. of India is resolved to create awareness among people about the efficacy of the AYUSH Systems through various media channels including the production of audio-visual educational material and promotion of the International Day of Yoga.
The Government in the new budget for the Min. of AYUSH has also mentioned its determination to foster international interaction and market development by establishing academic chairs in foreign countries.
An outlay of Rs 1,939.76 crore has been earmarked for AYUSH delivery systems, which is an increase of 14.59% over the last fiscal.
AYUSH Healthcare Super Specialty Day care Hospitals will be established to promote medical tourism in this sector. The cultivation of medicinal plants is to be integrated with the farming system and the institutional capacities of hospitals, dispensaries & educational institutions along with the drugs testing framework will also be strengthened.
With the initiative of National Medicinal Plants Board, 32 State Medicinal Plants Boards in 27 States and 5 Union Territories have been constituted for manufacturing of medicinal plants for domestic consumption as well as export.
The utilization of Ayurvedacharyas for community health programs is also being encouraged by the Min. of AYUSH in India.
