For those wanting to join Indian Air Force after 12th as ‘OFFICERS’:

After class 12, if you want to be an officeryou can join Indian Air Force through one route only. This is through the NDA & NA exam if you want to join Indian Air Force after 12th and this is for only those male candidates who have passed Class 12 with Physics and Math as their compulsory subjects.

If you are short-listed for Indian Air Force after the NDA exam’s initial selection procedure (check out the link ‘NDA exam’ in the conclusions section below), you will go through a rigorous 3-year training regimen at the National Defense Academy at Khadakwasla, followed by specialized training at one of the training establishment. Thereafter, you will becommissioned as Permanent Commission Officers and posted as officers at any of the Air Force Stations.

You can join the National Defence Academy by taking the exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). NDA exam is conducted twice a year in all major cities throughout India.

Only males are eligible to apply for NDA exams

Eligibility criteria for NDA & NA- Age:

Your age should be between 16.5 – 19.5 years.

For example, for the NDA exam to be held in 2021:

You should be born between July 2, 2001, and July 1, 2004, for NDA I.

For NDA II, you should be born between 2nd January 2002 and 1st January 2005.

Eligibility criteria for NDA & NA- Marital Status:

You should be unmarried when you are applying.

You also cannot marry until you complete your coaching.

Eligibility criteria for NDA & NA- Nationality:

You must be an Indian citizen or a naturalized Nepalese/Bhutanese/Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 to become a permanent resident of India.

Eligibility criteria for NDA & NA –Foreign Nationals:

Foreign Nationals (barring Gorkhas) will be allowed to produce eligibility certificates issued by the Indian Government.

Eligibility criteria for NDA & NA – Migrants:

If you are a migrant from ISTAN/ Burma/ East African countries of Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Vietnam, Zaire, Ethiopia, OR Sri Lanka with an urge to settle in India, you are eligible for the NDA exam.

About the NDA & NA exam

NDA exam is atwo-tier national level entrance test held twice a year for unmarried male candidates who want to make their careers in Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. It is for themwanting to join the armed forces in India and NDA exam is their first chance to urge the admissions.

If you clear the NDA exam, you are going to be invited for the SSB (Services Selection Board) interview Round. If you qualify the SSB Interview Round and also the following Medical Test, you are going to be eligible for entering the NDA (National Defense Academy).

NDA exam is held twice (NDA exam1& NDA exam2) every year in April and Nov. You will able to access the application form for NDA exam (1) from January tentatively. After clearing the SSB round, you will have to bear the medical examination and document verification processes.

Details about NDA & NA exam: Selection Process

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC is the conducting body of NDA exam) willrelease a list of candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in the written NDA examination.

Listed candidates will have to appear before Air Force Selection Board(AFSB) for Intelligence & Personality interviews where:

  • You will have to qualify Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS), in addition to the above

Details about NDA & NA: Filling the application form

You are required to fill NDA application form online.
The application fee is Rs 100 which can be paid both online and offline (as explained earlier).
UPSC will release the list of rejected applicants a few days after the closure of the application process.
Besides, the examination authority will also activate the link to withdraw your NDA application form for a specified period. If you do not wish to appear for the exam, you can also withdraw your application form.

Join Indian Air Force After 12th: NDA EXAM SELECTION PROCESS – FILLING THE APPLICATION FORM

Details about NDA & NA: Release of admit card

NDA exam admits card will be released three weeks prior to the exam.

The link to download the admit card will be made available on the official portal.

You can download the admit card by logging in either with your roll number or your registration number.

Any hard copy of the admit card will not be sent to you by post.

Details about NDA & NA: Written Exam

If you successfully register for the exam, you are required to appear for the written exam.

The written exam comprises 2 sections (as explained earlier) – Mathematics and General Ability Test.

The test carries a total of 900 marks.

If you obtain the minimum qualifying marks in the written exam, you will be called for the next round of SSB interviews.

Details about NDA & NA: AFSB Interview

The Interview is conducted for assessing your Intelligence as well as Personality. This is conducted in two stages.

  • If you qualify NDA exam (written), you are put to stage 1 test on the first day of reporting at Selection Centres.
  • If you qualify for the first stage, you are called for the second stage exam. If you qualify for the second stage, you are required to submit your birth certificate and pass certificates:

(i) Original Matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of DOB

(ii) Original Class 12th pass certificate or equivalent in support of educational qualification

The AFSBinterview will be conducted in varied rounds for a period of 5 days and all selected candidates (from the written exam) need to appear in all the rounds.

Details about NDA & NA: Final Selection

If you are finally selected, you will be up for admission to Air Force wings based on your performances in the written exam and AFSB Interviews.

Your final allocation will be done as per the number of vacancies, subject to your eligibility, medical fitness, and merit-cum-preference.

Join Indian Air Force after 12th: Pays & Allowances for Officers

  1. You start earning a monthly stipend of Rs. 56,100/- during last one year of your training period, even before you are commissioned as an Air Force Officer
  2. The following Pay / Allowances would be applicable on grant of Commission:-
    • Pay in Pay Band ( Common to all Branches ) – Rs 56,100 Per Month (you will be placed in Level 10 in the Pay Matrix of 7th CPC: 56,100-1,10,700)
    • Military Service Pay:- Rs 15,500 Per Month
    • Other allowances such as Children Education Allowance, Transport Allowance, HRA etc. also admissible
  3. In addition, the following allowances are admissible to the newly Commissioned Officers in the Flying and Technical Branches
    • Flying Allowance to Flying Branch Officers.
    • Technical Allowance to Technical Branch Officers.

Join Indian Air Force after 12th: Pays & Allowances for Airmen

During training, a stipend of Rs. 14,600/- per month shall be paid.

On completion of training the starting gross emoluments at the minimum of scale of pay including Military

Service Pay (MSP), Group Pay {applicable for Group ‘X’ Trades only} and Dearness Allowance (DA) will be as follows:-

(a) Group ‘X’ Trades: Rs.33,100/- per month plus dearness allowance (as applicable) which, in subsequent years, may rise as per the career progression of the individual.

(b) Group ‘Y’ Trades: Rs.26,900/- per month plus Dearness allowance (as applicable) which, in subsequent years, may rise as per the career progression of the individual.

Other pays & allowances:

In addition to the above, various pays & allowances are also admissible from time to time as applicable, such as

  • Transport Allowance
  • Composite Personal Maintenance Allowance (CPMA)
  • Leave Ration Allowance (LRA)
  • High Altitude Allowance
  • Field Area/Modified Field Area Allowance
  • HRA
  • Children Education Allowance/ Hostel Subsidy etc.

      For AirForce, a female student can go in from the UPSC Technical route;

      -Physics Chemistry & Math in Class XII;
      -Engineering in graduation:
      1. You can apply through AFCAT for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Flying Branch.
      2. Short Service Commission in Flying branch is for 14 years with no further extension.
      3. Eligibility criteria:
      Age – 20 to 24 years (at the time of commencement of course).Upper age limit for Candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years(at the time of commencement of course).
      Nationality – Indian
      Marital Status – Single
      Gender – Men and Women.

      Educational Qualifications

      1. Minimum of 50% marks each in Maths & Physics at 10+2 level.
      2. Graduates (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognised University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent OR BE/B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognised university with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
      3. Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

      Final Year students are also eligible to apply, provided they do not have any backlog at the time of AFSB Testing and produce Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.

      NCC SPECIAL ENTRY (FOR MEN AND WOMEN)

      (Candidates can apply online through NCC Special Entry)
      As an Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ Certificate holder of the National Cadet Corps, you can apply to the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force. Men & women can join the Air Force through this mode of entry. Permanent Commission offered for men and Short Service Commission for men and women.

      Age –20 to 24 years (at the time of commencement of course). Upper age limit for Candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years(at the time of commencement of course).

      Marital Status – Single
      Gender – Men and women.
      Educational Qualifications
      Minimum 50% marks in each in Maths & Physics at 10 + 2 level.
      Graduate (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
      OR
      BE/B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent
      OR
      Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

      Final Year/semester students are also eligible to apply, provided they do not have any present backlogs at the time of AFSB Testing and produce Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.
      NCC Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ certificate and validity of the certificate would be two years before the date of advertisement.
      Advertisement Schedule: Advertisement for NCC Special Entry is released by the IAF in the months of June and December.
