What Does an Electronics Communication Engineer do?
As an Electronics and Communication Engineer, you will be engaged with one or more of the following roles and responsibilities: –
- You will be assisting senior engineers using a mix of engineering techniques and mathematics to help senior designers design, produce, install and maintain electronic and telecommunications systems.
- You will be helping senior engineers with the designing and managing equipment which are used to control and monitor systems, processes and machinery which includes network design, mobile communications, data service requirements and internet and network signaling protocols.
- You will be assisting senior engineers in the evaluation of operational systems and recommend modifications in design so as to eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in system requirements.
- You will learn the use of computer-assisted engineering (CAE) and design software and equipment to assist in design-related engineering tasks.
- You will be working with senior engineers in determining project material or equipment needs.
- You will be assisting senior engineers, support personnel, procurement, maintenance, or quality control teams in writing, reviewing, or maintaining engineering documentation, estimating production costs and composing progress reports.
- You will be helping in supervising the work of other junior technicians.
- You will participate in conducting research and analytical studies for developing new concepts in your field of electronics and communication engineering.

How to Become an Electronics Communication Engineer – Eligibility Criteria
After completing Class 10, you need to go for a Diploma course in ‘Electronics and Communication’ or ‘Electrical and Electronics Engineering from any Polytechnic college or similar institutions located at a number of cities and towns across the country. These Diploma courses are output-oriented technical skill training programs with the objective of turning a student or non-worker to a professional.
After your Diploma, you have the option to undergo National Employability Enhancement Mission (NEEM) training in the field of ‘Electronics and Hardware’ with any Society / Trust / Company registered as a NEEM facilitator and approved by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education).
This on-the-job (OJT) training may be for 3 to 36 months and is completely decided by the company imparting the training. However, you may or may not be retained as a permanent employee after the training. This training contract is not a guarantee of employment but enables an individual to find numerous work opportunities in the future.
