Why Psychometric tests are important for School Students

Why Psychometric tests are important for School Students : Why Psychometric tests are important for School Students Using Psychometric Tests To Help Out School Students At the start, it would be good to understand what psychometric testing seeks to achieve. The tests are a set of physical and mental queries intended to get a better understanding of the individual's conditioning. Most examinations aim at testing the learning capability of the student and never get to access the mental makeup of a person. The tests aim at revealing the cognitive capacity of the person before taking to making life-changing educational decisions. So if done correctly, the psychometric tests can reveal the suitability of the student to a particular field of study. Rather than focus on what pays more or what the parents would want the child to pursue, a psychometric test would best match the capability to the needs of the skill market. When should the psychometric tests be conducted? It would be wrong to have the tests done right at the beginning of the school education. That is the child has to attain a stable stage in their development to have the right assessment done using the tests. If the individual is too young, the traits that were made a note of early on might be subject to changes as the character is formed and behavioral traits harden. The psychometric tests should be done at crucial junctures in the students' lives to make a difference to the person. Ideally, the tests should be done towards the middle of the school life when the children would have attained the age of around fourteen or fifteen.  This would have allowed both the boys and girls to have matured sufficiently to have formed traits of adult behavioral patterns. How are the tests conducted? The test consists of a questionnaire which seeks to understand the traits and personality types of people. It is essential to answer the queries truthfully to get the most benefit from the process. If the information is given wrong, it is the person who is getting the assessment done that is going to be adversely affected. With the use of computers to do the testing, it is possible to have a lot more directed questions. Each subsequent question is decided by how the person gets to answer the earlier questions and so on.  One of the strong points of the computer testing model is that it has been possible to have subdivisions to the dominant traits which were not possible earlier. It is the individual who takes the final call as to be tested by the computer mode or the written style. Rarely does the method of testing decide or influence the final results and it is more of the convenience of the test taker more than anything else. How can the tests help the student make the correct choice? The traditional approaches to understanding personality traits never stressed the role of temperament or what is now called the emotional quotient (EQ). The EQ gets to relate a person to the situations around them and often the amount of volatility in the person's temperament. As has been observed in the past, it is the calm individual who gets to be in better control of situations, no matter how acute and heated it might be. When the correct assessment of the individuals EQ is made, it would be possible to guide him to a field that would be the best match for the kind of temperament. This brings stability to the career choice and in the very long term a better satisfaction in the chosen field. A mismatch in this aspect could cause acute distress to the person and more importantly affect the health to a large extent. Thus by using the psychometric tests well it is possible to guide the students towards the right choice of career and subject to follow. How do the employers benefit from the psychometric tests? The psychometric tests aim at bringing greater harmony between the students and the field of study that they propose to undertake. The employer class would like to have people working for them who are comfortable in the chosen field, and the tests would help decide if the person is right for the role being considered. A worker who is the best fit for the role is bound to be more productive and thus would bring the most benefits to the firm or the employer that uses him. Therefore the final aim of the psychometric tests on students should be to have a more harmonious society as a whole. The legal issues around the psychometric testing All over the world, the stress is on providing individuals with the best opportunities to prosper and grow.  At the same time, there is a greater need to protect the privacy of the individual more than ever. Thus the testing procedures are done in such a manner that the private details of the person undergoing the testing and in case there are some personal issues are not brought to the public domain. Another vital part of the development of the tests is the need to be neutral as far as cultural and social statuses are concerned. Thus the questions are so framed to avoid advantages or the disadvantages to people due to the backgrounds that they come from. At the same time, the tests are not to be taken as the final word in deciding the suitability of a person to a course of study. Are psychometric testing essential to the school student? At present, there is no compulsion that school students need to undergo psychometric tests at any time during their study. However, the tests are recommended to students to understand themselves and their temperaments better. It is thus more of a self-help and self-awareness step than a mandated study of the person. Thus the psychometric test must be performed with the due balance being exercised and to better guide the student and not as a mandatory requirement for studying a particular course.

Career Counseling is helpful in India to get the best Platform for Student

Career Counseling is helpful in India to get the best Platform for Student : Career Counseling is helpful in India to get the best Platform for Student Understanding Career Counseling In India It is not that all that career counseling does is to advice the potential student of the current options to pursuing a career. There are the usual consultants who make a show of researching out the possibilities and only to insist that the student sticks to what is the convention. Often there are vested interests at play which more or less gets to push specific predetermined options to the student. Thus the first step to getting guided sufficiently well on career counseling in India is to pick out the right service provider who would keep the interest of the client foremost in mind. What career counseling seeks to do? There are broadly three or four stages to a complete career guidance session. Each stage aims at the specific outcomes to be arrived at which could be the input to the next phase of evaluation. This would allow each part of the client to be focused upon and to be improved to facilitate the taking up of an active career option. Evaluating the person Before the student is suggested options to choose from concerning a career option, it is best to start by understanding the mental conditioning and the true capabilities of the person. Things like psychometric tests determine the number of the traits of the individual, and to provide a reference point to start finding a suitable career choice. A person with excellent interpersonal skills should be matched with a career option that can make good use of this feature and not be at a hostage to the behavioural trait. A large part of tests is the questions that are designed to understand the individual. A good counselor would take sufficient pains to explain to the client the need to be truthful with the answers. After all, a set of wrong answers is going to end up providing the incorrect assessment which can do more harm in the long term than any good as such. Advising corrective action In many instances, it would be evident that it is possible to correct certain aspects of a person and more so if the individual is on the younger side. However, this must be done professionally that it does benefit the student. Certain traits can be corrected and some behavioural aspects further strengthened. In case the student does have a certain interest area, it is best to focus on how to equip the individual better to face the field of study. Just as trying to change a person, it is essential to know when it would be futile to do so. Unless this differentiation is made, the student can be put through some traumatic conditions in the bid to bring about changes which cannot be done. Presenting the options for a career Once the student has been put through the paces to find his strengths and weakness, the next progression would be to suggest the options available on hand that would be in tune with his abilities. In case a client does have strong opinions about a particular course of study or the career line, it is best to work out an option which does take into consideration these concerns. One of the gravest mistakes that can be committed while choosing a career option is the factor of making money after the studies. No doubt, money is vital to living but not to such an extent that it is the only aim of picking out a career path. If a careful study were to be done on the career options that were available a good two decades ago, it would be evident that there would not be many options of those days that are relevant today. Thus it is essential to realize that career options and choices are a factor of the times people are living in and must not be taken as being permanent by any means. What would matter to a student starting on a career is to pick out a field of study where he would be able to excel and stand out. This would ensure the most possible that the individual would be valued for his service and ability far longer than an option that does not stress this aspect. Offering the admissions assistance After the student has zeroed in on what to pursue in terms of his life goals, the next step is to provide options of institutes and universities that do have the right courses which would ensure his success in the chosen field. One of the critical features of student life in India is the mad rush to get admission to the most prestigious teaching facilities available in the country.  It must be made clear to the student that getting a good elite institution to pursue a course of study is great, but the refusal to the top few institutions need not mean the end of the road. An excellent career counselor would focus on providing the good reachable alternatives when speaking of institutions to study. If this is done from the first day of the counseling sessions, the individual would be more balanced in his approach to pick the right educational institution. Never should a person be made to feel worthless just because he was rejected from being admitted to a prestigious institution of study. How does the student benefit from a good career counselor? The above would broadly lay out what it takes to pick out a career choice. But the listing is not by any means the most exhaustive one, and there are bound to be additions to the steps outlined above. A good counseling service would try to put the maximum level of service all under a single venue or location. This would help the potential client have the best advice as well as the most convenient one too. Career counseling in India has come a long way the past few years, and it is now considered mandatory to make a consultation when picking out a career option.

Top career guidance institutes to Shape Student Future

Top career guidance institutes to Shape Student Future : Top career guidance institutes to Shape Student Future The Important Factors In Career Guidance Nowadays career guidance is considered part and parcel of the most school curriculum. There are of course the career guidance institutes which focus on providing the right advice to the students when out to make decisions on career choices, but it is common to find a lot of educational institutions who would call upon the more professional career guidance establishment to guide their wards. This is, in essence, the best choice when it comes to educating the students of career choices as often the institutes are better prepared and capable of rendering the right focus to the very activity. Just like any other service provider, the career guidance institute must focus on a few performances criteria, and they have been discussed below. 1. Give an overall coverage Most students when they do approach a career guidance consultant would not have much of a definite idea as to what sort of field to take up going forward. A good counselor would gather information on as much of the areas and fields as possible. This enables the student to be with a provided a fair glimpse of a range of activities and not restrict the final choice in any way. There have been instances when a career guidance expert would push specific courses and areas of expertise.  Often, there are inducements from the related institutions in the field to do, and this would, in the long run, erode the reputation of the consultant. 2. Understand the labor markets One of the most unpredictable of factors that influence the career decision would be the labor conditions prevalent in a particular field. In a way, this has to do with the fact that the consultants and even the schools, where the students attend classes, are far removed from the working labor markets. Thus it is necessary to have the right approach, and this is to cultivate contacts and dialogues with people who are in the field and on the ground. Considering the range of career choices available to the potential student, the task of getting to know of the labor requirements to an area is indeed an arduous one. It does take firms in career counseling hard work and perseverance to come to an expert position on labor conditions. The main reason that there are high unemployment levels in a country has a lot to do with the lack of understanding of the labor markets and its requirements. So a person tends to take up career choices with little hope of finding a use for it or gaining employment afterwards. 3. Take a broad approach to careers Traditionally people tended to prefer the colleges and universities soon after the formal years at the school. However, often there is little knowledge of the alternatives on offer which could be more rewarding both concerning remuneration as well as job satisfaction. Thus it is essential to understand the client well before the correct suggestions are made. With most students, they do not have the necessary skills to interpret data that is available.  Thus this results in situations where the information is not given the due focus that it deserves for lack of correct decoding of the data on hand. During most parts of history, people took to career choices for the fact that it was the most attractive relatively.  That is, given the available choice, the best option then was chosen. This is how the balanced approach comes to play. Thus the student is assured of a correct presentation of the choices as with the facilities to upgrade skill levels too. 4. Using work experiences In the short time that is available to the school student to get to understand the pressures of each career choice, there is a very effective method to use in each case.  Moreover, that is to allow some time for the concerned student to spend with a company or individual in the chosen field. This would be one of the most potent renderings of the situations on the ground that someone taking to a career option would be facing. Often if the effort is taken to place the student in one of the larger corporations or companies, then it would be possible to have a ringside experience of not just a single specialization but a range of functions being carried out on an actual basis. 5. Keeping track of prior clients As far as the relationship between the career guidance consultant and the student seeking the guidance is concerned, it is one based on the sharing of some of the private thoughts and aspiration goals. Thus, if the guidance institute were to keep track of every individual that did use their services, it would soon be able to come to definite conclusions on a number of operational aspects of the career guidance. The concerned career counselor would be able to guide the students of the future better if the guidance is followed up until the person is settled into a career too. The career guidance institute must be proactive in handling the aspirations of the student that use its expertise. As discussed above, the best guidance would come from accessing the right data and its proper interpretation. The success of a career counselor must not be seen in the money that he makes but in the useful contribution that he makes to the betterment of careers and lives.

Why Student Need guidance and counselling in education to Build Their Future

Why Student Need guidance and counselling in education to Build Their Future : Why Student Need guidance and counselling in education to Build Their Future The Importance Of Guidance And Counseling In Education It is never enough for the educational institute no matter how senior or junior that it might be just to be imparting knowledge alone. The overall development of the students which comes about by allowing each individual to achieve and perform to his best is what every school should aim for.  Here it is the constant and continued interaction between the students and the teachers that would bring about the most desirable results and over time too. When young minds are being trained out to fill positions in society, it is crucial to allow just the right time frame to bring about the development. A rushed attempt would not only create half-baked results but could cause damage to the individual too. How to create the right interactions It is wrong to consider that guidance and counseling in education are needed to those students who have to make a life choice or a career choice. The need is to interact with the students as frequently as possible and at all levels of development. Often when the right approach is not taken at the start of school life, it becomes close to impossible to establish lines of communication after some time. Thus the stress must be laid as early as possible to have guidance sessions with the students to open up lines of communication between the students and the teachers at an institution. The senior classes could do with the formal guidance and counseling sessions which can be laid out in the standard timetable. However, the much younger tots need not be restricted by the set times, and the staff must make it a point to have informal sit around sessions which are the first step to hearing what they have to say. Once the initial contact has been established with the students, it becomes easy to bring about changes in their thoughts and manners through the interactions. The aims of guidance and counseling sessions with students Focus: Trusts run most of the educational institutions and managing bodies that have specific objectives to fulfil. Thus by using the guidance and counseling sessions, it is possible to give a much-desired focus to the student body in general. Moreover, it is possible to mould the students as per the needs and requirements of the society as the case might be. Rather than trying to effect sudden change in thinking and actions of the students a gradual process that involves a continuous interaction would bring about a much better result most of the time. With the young children, it is that they need to be given a general sense of direction and the best way to do is to have productive interactions that are aimed at achieving the desired results. At times of turmoil and turbulence in society, it is the guidance that keeps the students focused on the studies and school activities. Control: There would not be many schools and educational institutions that do not need to keep the student body under control. The control can mean the disciplinary one or the need to achieve the goals of the given institution. The guidance and counseling in education are aimed at keeping the students in check and within limits set out by the society in general. Understand: It is never that guidance sessions are meant for just the students alone. A good counseling session is a chance to understand the needs of the students so that the teachers can offer the right attention. Thus the guidance sessions are equally meant for the teachers to affect changes in their attitude towards the students as well as the methods that they have been following till then. The broad aims of career guidance If a reasonably large school or institution were to be taken, there would be people from all sorts of backgrounds. But most institutions would have a base of people who do prefer the kind of attention that is being rendered at the location. By the use of proper guidance, it is possible to create an awareness of the needs of future society in general and the trends that could emerge as the students prepare for a life outside the school. Balance is key to a lot of life practices, and by using the method of guidance and counseling in the right manner; it is possible to relate to what the student would want from the time spent in getting an education. Often when opportunities are discussed among people, the role of data in coming to certain conclusions cannot be belittled. A good guidance session must be able to bolster the trends prevailing in society by using data to good effect. Guidance and counselling in education have to be approached as a continuous activity that is aimed at creating a dialogue between the student body and the teachers. It can be used to bring about changes to attitudes and thoughts in time as the students get to trust the staff and those involved in the running of the institutions.

How an Education Consultant Help You in Achieving your Goals

How an Education Consultant Help You in Achieving your Goals : How an Education Consultant Help You in Achieving your Goals When people do go about seeking out education, rarely do they think further than to be able to pursue a course at a reputed institution or university. Rarely are young minds focused enough to be able to ask the right questions regarding a course of study nor do they have the necessary domain knowledge to be able to make an informed decision most of the time. This would be just the right scenario to have the education consultant in Delhi make a proper assessment and come to a definite conclusion as to the suitable course of study to pursue and the kind of institutions to pick out from. What is an education? Even the very learned and experienced folks would be hard pressed to give out a definite answer to the posed question. However, it would be sufficient to understand that education seeks to develop the individual holistically as far as possible. So the result would be someone who has not just the advanced knowledge but also the right attitude to applying what is known in the field of study. It would be very evident from the explanation given in the above that finding a suitable course of study does mean knowing just more than what would be the interesting topic for the prospective student to take up for study. How the right educational consultant helps in deciding a course to study A good consultant must not only be able to get the right course to pursue but equally important is to prepare the student for the rigours of the chosen field of study. Each area of work does require a particular aptitude, and it is essential to pick out the course that would be a match for the person's ability most of the time. Understanding the student If there were one single element in deciding a course of study that is as crucial as the individual intending to take up the study; then it has to understand the makeup of the concerned student. Specific fields of work need good physical strength and stamina, and if the student is not that sturdily build the chances of getting to perform to true potential remains somewhat remote. Similarly, it is crucial to assess the student to understand his capability. A student intent on taking to a technical field needs to be able to apply measurements and calculations to real-life situations. Not only does this mean a person with the capability to tackle mathematics but more importantly someone who would work meticulously to prevent errors being committed in the calculations. Knowing what is relevant to the times Few people would want to take to a career choice that has little scope into the future. An excellent education consultant in Delhi would know of the underlying trends as and when they do form in the job market and not wait till the news breaks out to the open. So such an expert would be able to advise the candidate suitably much before the onset of crises. A good consultant must have the necessary industry contacts and tie-ups to be able to know as and when changes do take place and in most fields too. It would be evident that someone who can keep abreast of the latest requirements in the educational field is no means to be considered as ordinary. Keeping the cost in mind One of the most defining features of modern day education is the rather commercial approach that it takes. So the cost of a program is related to the scope of the course to secure a good job at the end of it. Most people who do seek out an education would not be that well off as to be able to be carefree with money. What matters in a number of situations is to find the most affordable courses in the chosen field, and this could mean choosing a cheaper college to pursue the course. In case the expense towards pursuing a course happens to be rather high, an excellent educational consultant must be able to suggest alternative means of meeting the costs. This is where knowledge of scholarships and grants to use in the study of programs come to be useful. The best source of information in such matters is, of course, the educational consultant most of the time. Location advantages to an educational consultant There are many instances when the prospective student would not be willing to move out of an area or would want to pursue studies in some regions of the country. It is an excellent educational consultant that would be having the necessary resources to suitable guide such cases and to suggest the various alternatives that are available in each instance. It is an accepted fact that with the outstanding consultants, they need to have not just good knowledge of the courses and institutions on offer but equally important is to have the right set of connections at an institute to push forward the deserving cases. Thus the better of the educational consultants are more known by the final results they have been able to show for their efforts in each case.   The education consultant in Delhi does have the location advantage in that he is located at the confluence of not just the roads and rail lines in the country, but often the power centres of the region too. So the student is assured of a certain level of competence and is rendered quality service when it comes to making a career choice.

Career advice no one ever gives

Career advice no one ever gives : Career advice no one ever gives There comes a phase in every student’s life in which the need to focus on board examinations or the pressure to ace the entrance examinations comes altogether. And in the midst of all the uncertainty, you are sitting there wondering what exactly you want to do? And it is absolutely okay to feel a little under-confident or uncertain about your future. You’ll feel that it is a big deal and if you do not make prompt decisions in life you will miss out on everything. Just so you know, it is indeed a big deal but that simply doesn’t mean that you take hurried decisions and land up in a course or a career path that doesn’t lift you up or helps you grow. We all have been in the same situation and have been targeted by a lot of people who tell you what’s good for you. As a matter of fact do you really think anybody else can decide what’s really good for you? I am not saying you stop listening to what people say, but at least be sane enough to implement what would work for you and what wouldn’t. So let’s try and talk about the things that no one ever tells us. Here are a few pointers that may help you a lot in decision making. 1. Don’t take everybody’s opinion seriously - While juggling between what you should do and what shouldn’t, you’ll see a lot of people around you advising you and telling you all the better options for your career. And the more you listen to people, the far you go away from your own opinion. One day you might find job X interesting and the other day you’ll find job Y more financially appealing. And that’s when it is necessary to set your own priorities right and decide what according to you is important. Listen to whatever people say, but try to “do” what you think is right.  2. “Everybody is doing it” should not affect your goals - The thing that nobody tells us is to follow our own heart. If you think you are good at something, for example: painting, then you should not need to worry why people are going for MBA or CA. If you are sure something would make you happy by pursuing it, you’d automatically want to do well in it and other’s decisions and opinions wouldn’t affect your progress. Therefore choosing a career should be solely based on your interest. People’s opinions must be listened to, but the decision taking part must be the basis of your own interest.  3. Don’t fall for “Do what you are good at” - Taking career decision on the basis of what you are good at may look like an easy option but it is very temporary. You’d have to find where your interests lie and where you want to be. All you need to figure out is where your interest lies. Let’s take for an example of a boy who scores extremely well in accountancy and ends up taking CA as his career path without looking at the job profile and working style. The boy soon realized that he is neither doing well in his preparation for the entrance exams nor is able to focus on other options. Just because you are good at something shouldn’t be the basis for your career. 4. A year drop doesn’t define Success - Year drop is the toughest decision for everyone, and especially for parents. Who wants their child to sit at home and do nothing? Well that is all true but if dropping a year means you need time to introspect and look for options and perform well in the exams, then a year drop isn’t that bad an option. The mentality that a drop means the child is not focused or is wasting time should change because to a great extent it is not true. There are times we need to take a break and figure out things, and if a year’s break helps in making career decisions more favourable then when looked from a bigger perspective, this could save anyone from taking wrong career decisions. Therefore, before deciding to take a year off, make sure you have evaluated your options carefully and that whatever you decide, it helps you grow which wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. 5. Change of plans is alright - Gone are the days when everyone was supposed to stick to one particular field and follow it for rest of the life. With so many options available everywhere, if you think you no longer like to continue what you were passionate about earlier, you should not be afraid of exploring for more options. Although it is generally thought that after investing a lot of time and money there seems no logic in not pursuing it any longer. But as a matter of fact, if you really think that you cannot continue, just take a break and introspect. Talk to people and share your fears and if it’s justified you can always change your career path. 6. Take Risks - We are always told to focus on one thing and not take risks. But if there are so many opportunities available in the market to test your skills and interest. One must always strive hard, one must always say yes to opportunities to keep exploring options and never settle for just one thing. There are so many options available which may guide you towards even better and fulfilling career pathways. Factually,a very large part of your career helps you in defining your attitude and personality.  Always remember that your career plays a huge role in defining your life, so in case you feel you are in need of some guidance, you can always take help from your seniors and take decisions. If still you feel you need more clarity, you can always take help from career counselling experts. “There are No Limits to what you can accomplish, except the limits you place on your own thinking”

Reasons why scoring average isn’t the end of the world

Reasons why scoring average isn’t the end of the world : Reasons why scoring average isn’t the end of the world One thing that nobody talks about is the fact that scoring less doesn’t mean the end of opportunities. Marks are indicative of a student’s understanding of the concept and not his/her potential. If a student scores less marks, it primarily means the lack of understanding of the concept, it doesn’t define his ability to do something in life. The greatest thinkers, entrepreneurs and leaders of a generation have been the ones who challenged the societal norms and who had goals bigger than just scoring high. Their failures were not the predictors of their intelligence and thus people like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson and many others were able to achieve what they aspired for. Sandeep Maheshwari, one of the top most successful entrepreneurs in India, in his academic days, a college dropout finding his interest outside of studies. Following his passion, Sandeep became a freelance photographer and an inspiration all over the world. He is now an internet sensation motivating hundreds of young minds with his success stories and experiences. He is the founder of Images Bazaar, known for the largest collection of Indian stock images online.  Another similar story is shared by an actor turned comedian, Vir Das, who was an average student and scored below average marks in his board exams. His low marks in board exams couldn’t hinder his potential of becoming one of the most successful comedians in India today. He has recently debuted his show on Netflix becoming internationally famous. The actor shares on his Facebook post, “Whether your results are amazing or not doesn’t prevent your personality from being amazing. At the end of each day of your life people remember who you are not how you did.” Success isn’t defined by scoring high or low marks, but is surely defined by the amount of effort and smart work one puts in. One can score the highest of marks in exams but may fail to be good at other things, whereas some may be good at both. The fact that there are hundreds of examples of people who weren’t great at academics but did exceptionally well in their life. With increasing competition even scoring 98% doesn’t guarantee admission to the top colleges because every second student is scoring 90+ and struggling to get into their dream college because of the limited availability of seats.         The fact that there is a plethora of career options for a child to choose from, having a clear idea about the same becomes of extreme importance. To help gain some clarity, career counseling firms are gaining popularity among children and parents. Career counseling firm’s help students get some clarity on the options available in their career prospects. The counselors put forth a career path for the child based on the tests the child takes thus providing useful insights that help the child as well as the parents in decision making. Thus getting a brief amount of information for options available in a student’s career path becomes of prime importance. Having a clear approach towards career gives way to a clear career path. One of the many other reasons why scoring less doesn’t mean the end of the world because there comes a point in life where marks and college brand stops mattering. Things like knowledge, creativity and work ethics ultimately shapes one’s personality. Even in personal interviews, factual knowledge matters way less than the actual knowledge a student possess. Thus the statement “marks don’t matter” is partially true. The actual truth lies somewhere in between and thus inculcating the belief that ambition, goals, aspirations, hard work and accountability are better predictors of success in life rather than marks.  Data analysis conducted by Geeta Kingdon, author of the book “Tackling Low Educational Achievement”, shows that between 2004 and 2016, the percentage score in CBSE examinations has been highly amplified. Thus the results in the board examinations have been repeatedly increasing the percentage score of the students. The cut-off percentages to get admission into well reputed colleges have reached impossible levels, creating excessive pressure to do well in senior secondary examinations and therefore increasing the chances of suicides among the younger generation. Earlier 80+ percentage was considered decent and was enough to get admission in good colleges. But with rise in percentages, an average scorer stands minimum or no chance of getting into a good college leading into a stronger belief that he doesn’t possess other skills and talents or the potential to do well. Therefore, one must give calculated importance to marks as well as personal interests. Marks are not a medium through which a students’ caliber is judged, therefore even if scoring low or average marks, a student must focus on improving the score, considering the fact that marks matter only to some extent and it is the will and commitment that decides a child’s future.  “Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid”- Albert Einstein.

School Vs Coaching Institutes: Time to revive Indian Schooling system

School Vs Coaching Institutes: Time to revive Indian Schooling system : School Vs Coaching Institutes: Time to revive Indian Schooling system   A recent order by hon Supreme Court of India stated that entrance to medical and engineering colleges in India should not be taken just on an entrance exam score and weightage should be given to the school exam marks as well (class 12th exam score). SC order also stated that the central govt via MHRD should come with a body to regulate the private coaching institutes.    This order bring our attention to a very important subject of "School Vs Coaching Institutes" !!     I recently met a student 'Divya' who is studying in class 10th in a school located in Delhi, India. She was a class topper but she was worried that all her friends have been joining engineering and medical coaching institutes (Yes that too in class 9th/10th) & she is worried because of being left behind as she has not joined a coaching. Her mother added "I see Divya's friend and class mates joining coaching institutes and I feel my daughter is lagging behind if she has not joined a coaching right now".    Herd Mentality    Its just not Divya but most of the Indian students who aspire to join a private tuition or a private coaching institute because of herd mentality & societal expectations. This herd mentality has been established by the private coaching institutes. Such institutes establish a mindset that if you are a student who has not joined a coaching program you wont be successful in future. And this lie spreads. This is a classic sales pitch for such private coaching institutes through their advertisement in which they portray their ex-students who cleared entrance exams because of their coaching and are successful in their life.   I understand and believe in privatisation of education in India (which can improve quality and help the govt. too) but not at the cost of selling false aspirations and dreams to students and definitely not if such coaching institutes only agenda is sheer 'profiteering'. There has to be a balance between business & education which is not derived from greediness.    Recently Kota's Allen Career Institute (The Biggest coaching institute of India) was found out to be hiding 100 Cr of unaccounted income. This is by far the biggest corruption in education sector in India. Here is the complete news link. This clearly shows how these coaching institutes have completely commercialised education sector.    The larger cost that we are paying is when such students do not focus on their core fundamental education. And a much larger issue is when students start believing that for anything to be learned or to be successful we have to enrol in a coaching institute or a private tuition. Why so?   Rote Learning & Practice Test Learning Methodology    Private coaching institutes in India have created an out-of-school learning system which is based on "rote learning" & "practice test/assessments". It does not focus on fundamental learning, concept building or a free mindset where students can think out of box and learn with an open mind. It restrict students in a closed framework of education system based on past exam papers.    Annually 1 million students flock to Kota, a city in the state of Rajasthan in India which is also the hub of coaching institutes to crack the prestigious engineering (IIT-JEE) & medical entrance exams. Coaching institutes in Kota have tied up with schools who allow the coaching institute students to completely skip classes in the school for 2 years (class 11th & 12th) and attend only coaching institute classes for 8-10 hours per day. Students are being only taught Physics, Chemistry and Maths (required for engineering entrance exam) OR Physics, Chemistry and Biology (required for medical entrance exams). Day and night (for 2 years) 'some' of these students with the mastery of rote and practice based learning methodology clear the entrance exams to get into IITs & medical schools. Imagine such critical two years of a student is just fixed upon the "lousy" learning methodology of coaching institutes. More importantly such students skip important subjects like english, vocational subject which is being taught in the school. Additionally there is a huge difference between the learning environment at school and these coaching institutes.    Forced aspirations leading to young student committing suicides   Kota city alone see number of student suicides every year. Students are being pushed by their parents to study subjects in which they have no interest. Read this article which I recently wrote on this important issue - Link    Do we really need such coaching to clear entrance exams ?   A recent report published by IIT-G (the conducting body for IIT-JEE 2016) stated that 52.4% of students who qualified IIT entrance exam in 2016 never took any coaching for entrance exam preparation and studied in school and on their own. Such high statistics clearly prove that you do not necessarily need to join a coaching to clear entrance exams/achieve success. This should bring back our attention to improve learning environment in the school which can clearly allow a student to learn and even clear such entrance exams.    But why are Indian school teachers not doing their job ?   Many Indian school teachers make hefty amount of money via private tuition outside school. They tend to teach inside the school in a way (half-cooked) which make the students to come to them outside school for private tuition which in turn give the school teachers to earn a lot of money. Clearly teachers are not doing their job in the school system to crete an earning opportunity for themselves outside the school. And such behaviour of teachers is due to very low and stagnant salaries being paid by the schools in India. We need to understand the importance of teachers, their effort for which they need to be paid at par with any other profession in the market. Only then schools could have the authority to regulate such behaviour of teachers. But as they dont pay well, they dont care and more importantly school do not care what is being taught. As they have now agreed that its not their job to educate students, it the responsibility of private tuition and coaching.    Bring back the attention to the school education system   The entire system along with all the stakeholders (school, teacher, student, parent) have passed on the responsibility of delivering 'education' to coaching institutes. Clearly they no more believe that school education is important. And not anyone but its our country students whose aspirations, dreams or eagerness to learn is being crushed down by such beliefs.    We need to act, we need to bring back the confidence in our school education system; a fundamental way of learning. We have created a powerful ecosystem to deliver education but we are trying to create another parallel system of private coaching which lack to deliver quality education.    Divya was guided to get into Design as a career option (based on her abilities, personality and interest) and was guided to stay away from coaching institute in class 10th and even later. She was told to not get burdened because of her friends decision to go to coaching but believe in her own abilities. She gained her confidence, she believed in her own abilities & on the potential of learning in the school.     Its time we bring back our attention to the importance of education in the school !!     Regards, Ayush Bansal   Co-Founder & CEO, www.iDreamCareer.com     --------------------   If you are looking to get career guidance please call us at 9555990000 or write to us at support@idreamcareer.com

Agriculture Helping our agriculture grow is not only burden of our farmers but of the larger public too. With the second largest population of the earth, food is our primary concern and there are a number of ways where you can support and help the growth of agriculture in the country as well as the world. Over five millenniums of farming advancements have helped India into becoming a well-built base for time-honoured farming systems, such as the cereal-legume revolving system for maintaining sustainability of land and steadily growing production. But, a structured agricultural research system in India was commenced when an establishment of a camel and ox-breeding farm opened up in Karnal, Haryana way back in 1829. This was successively followed by the agricultural college and research station at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in 1868, a bacteriological research laboratory for veterinary science in Pune, Maharasthra in 1889 and the Imperial Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in 1905 at Pusa, Bihar. IARI started building trained human resource but agrarian research and studies received great consideration during the post- independence period, which facilitated the steered the famous ‘Green Revolution’, transforming the country from the state of severe food scarcity to that of a food surplus state. The farmers gain knowledge towards their agricultural expertise through on-the-job training and passed down advice, there are multitudes of ways that students can find a career in agriculture through various programs. These programs prepare students for more advanced positions, such as technicians, scientists, managers and leaders. Unknown to many, the academics, research and training system of Indian agriculture is internationally acknowledged for its quality.
