Key Highlights

School: Rajkiya Kanya Inter college, Indira Nagar

Hometown: Lucknow

Career Choice: Automobile Engineering

College: Tata Motors, Lucknow

Course Enrolled: Apprenticeship Program in Automobile Engineering

Shobha, a bright science student, aspired to become an engineer but was unsure about the specific career paths within engineering and the steps to pursue them. Her father’s contract-based job and her mother’s homemaker role meant there were constraints in terms of financial support for her higher education. Shobha had big dreams of becoming an engineer but didn’t have a clear, realistic understanding of how to achieve them.

In our career counseling sessions, we helped Shobha gain clarity by identifying her strengths and aligning them with the right career options. Her psychometric assessment showed that she had potential for fields like mechanical and automobile engineering, which matched her interests in working with tools and following structured processes.

We also discussed the practical challenges she might face and helped her understand the importance of balancing her aspirations with financial realities. Shobha was introduced to alternative career pathways such as:

  • Early Career/Apprenticeship Programs like HCL TechBee, Tata Motors, etc.

  • Diploma options in Engineering

Through these sessions, Shobha explored the pros and cons of each option with her counselor, gaining insight into the financial aspects and career prospects. She was encouraged to participate in the Tata Motors’ exam, which was conducted at her school. Shobha excelled in the exam, gaining deeper insights into her interest and potential in the automobile sector.

After thoroughly assessing her options and weighing her personal situation, Shobha was torn between two choices: Government Polytechnic Barabanki and an apprenticeship program at Tata Motors for ITI in Automobile. After further discussions with her counselor, we recommended the ITI apprenticeship at Tata Motors. This option provided immediate financial stability through a salary, hands-on learning in a field aligned with her interest, and the flexibility to pursue further studies later.
