Atmospheric Scientists study the physical, chemical, and other properties of the earth’s atmosphere and its interactions with and effects on various other systems of earth, such as lithosphere (the outermost cell of the earth – upper mantle and earth crust), cryosphere (part of earth surface where water lies as ice such as the pole), hydrosphere (the entire water bodies that earth has including the oceans, rivers, etc.) and biosphere (the sum all parts of the earth which are occupied by a living organism). They study, analyze, and forecast long-term climate changes, what causes those changes, and how to reverse or stop any harmful changes.

Computational Scientist

As a Computational Scientist, you will – (i) build computational models and simulation models and (ii) develop and write algorithms using advanced mathematical and computational techniques that can be applied to solve complex scientific, technological, and engineering problems.

Computational Scientists are called in when studying a natural system (physical, chemical, biological, environmental, etc.) or solving a complex scientific problem (such as out of 2,000 probable genes which one is responsible for a certain disease) requiring dealing with a massive amount of data throughput – or putting it simply, a massive amount of data inputs and analysis. This kind of data analysis cannot be done by simple computing we do use data analytic software on our computers but requires high-performance computing (HPC) or high-throughput computing (HTC).

Cognitive Scientist

Cognitive Scientists are devoted to the scientific study of the human mind. It is a highly cross-functional and interdisciplinary field that combines ideas/ methods from computer science, psychology, anthropology, philosophy, linguistics, and neuroscience.

The broad goal of Cognitive Scientists is to characterize the nature, forms, and content of human knowledge and how the human mind uses, processes and acquires such knowledge to execute its sensorimotor activities. Sensorimotor refers to the actions that our human body executes using our sensory organs and our limbs.

Marine Scientist

Marine Scientists study the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of Earth’s hydrosphere specifically the ones relating to the combined water volume above the surface of the planet (oceans/ seas) including inland aquatic ecosystems like lakes, reservoirs, ponds, rivers, springs, streams, and wetlands. The study of inland water systems is specifically called ‘Limnology’ (an ecosystem is a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment).

Marine Science involves studying the wildlife of oceans, rivers, lakes, seas, etc., the microbes found in these environments, the interactions between living / non-living components of these environments, geological aspects of the water systems, the biology of certain water animals, disease pathologies of animals found in these locations, deriving natural products from these resources for creating medicines for the treatment of human diseases, etc.

As a Conservation Scientist, the key purpose of your work will be to get involved in research, studies, management, and policymaking for the protection and conservation of Earth’s natural resources, its flora and fauna, and biodiversity. You will aim to protect species, conserve their habitats, and conserve the natural ecosystem to reduce or reverse the rate of extinction of the various flora and fauna (plants and animals) that our Earth has.

Conservation scientists manage, improve, and protect Earth’s natural resources to maximize their use without damaging the environment. They manage the overall land quality of forests, parks, rangelands, and other natural resources such as soil, water, wildlife, forests, watersheds, energy, marine ecosystems, etc.

Ecologist

Ecologists research and study how the various living organisms (including animals, plants, and microorganisms) interact among themselves and with their biological and physical environment. They study the habitats of living organisms and ecosystems. Interactions could involve a range of biological habits, events, and phenomena such as – an animal or plant may eat or consuming other animals; a particular species of animals may communicate with one another; their social behavior; their sexual behavior and other ways of reproduction; their ways of coping up with changes in ecosystem and adaptation; their evolution; and their interactions with humans and so on.

Entomologist

Entomologists research and study how various insects interact with each other and with the environment they live in. They research, study, and experiment with insects’ habitats and how they evolve, and how they interact with other insects and living organisms (including plants, animals, and humans).
