NIFT 2017 Admission Notification

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has released its notification for admission to:

  • Bacehlor of Design (B.Des) (Eligibility - Class 12th - any stream/subject)
  • Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech.) (Eligibility - PCM in class 12th)
  • Master of Design
  • Master of Fashion Technology
  • Master of Fashion Management

NIFT Campus - Total 16 

Admission is via NIFT paper based entrance exam called as General Ability Test (GAT), Creative Ability Test (CAT) and Situational Ability Test (SAT),  that will be conducted on 12th Feb, 2017 across India at 32 cities. 

Important Dates

Admission Process

  • The admission to various courses of NIFT is via General Ability Test (GAT), Creative Ability Test (CAT) and Situational Ability Test (SAT),  that will be conducted on 12th Feb, 2017 across India at 32 cities. 
  • For Bacehlor of Design course - student need to give CAT & GAT. 
  • For Bachelor of Fashion Technology course - student need to give only GAT. 
  • Both GAT and CAT are of 2 hours (Each) duration and will be conducted on 12th Feb. 
  • On the Basis of result of CAT & GAT, students will be called to give another exam called as Situation Test (SAT). 
  • For Bachelor of Fashion Technology course there is no situation test and admission is only via GAT. 

Examination Pattern

For B.Des & M.Des GAT comprises of following sections:

  • Quantitative Ability
  • Communidation Ability
  • English Comprehension
  • Analytical Ability
  • General Knowledge & Current Affairs

For B.FTech. course GAT comrises of following sections:

  • Quantitative Ability
  • Analytical & Logical Ability
  • General Knowledge & Current Affairs
  • Case Study

Pattern of Creative Ability Test/CAT (only for B.Des, M.Des course):

This test is administered to judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills.

Pattern of Situation Test (only for B.Des)

Shortlisted candidates for B.Des from the written entrance examination are required to take a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. The model will be evaluated on space visualization, innovative and creative use of given material, composition of elements, colour scheme, construction skill, finesse of the model and overall presentation etc. These parameters will be checked with the write up explaining the concept behind the model constructed. Since the medium of instruction in NIFT is English, the write-up will be in English. No marks will be given for write-up in any other language.
